21st Century Competencies

This three-day workshop will help you tap into your innate 21st century competencies and to demonstrate them in practice. Participants can extend their learning after the third day and access greater support to implement culture-shifting, transformative initiatives in their own work and organizations, if they choose a coaching option.

The program is based on the book, Dancing at the Edge: Competence, Culture and Organization in the 21st Century by Maureen O’Hara and Graham Leicester.

Dancing at the Edge takes a distinctive stand in relation to competence:

  • Competence is defined as the ability to meet important challenges in life.
  • It is impossible to be competent alone. Individual competence is always demonstrated in a human system, in a culture and in a pattern of relationships.
  • Competencies are qualities of persons as a whole. They cannot be distinguished one from another, developed in isolation or mastered one stage at a time.

The 21st century competencies are innate—they require the right setting to show themselves and a supportive environment in which to develop.

We know that these competencies exist because we have seen them demonstrated in practice by the persons of tomorrow within organizations around us.

In tune with Dancing at the Edge, the program offers all participants an opportunity to explore and develop their 21st century competencies. It offers an opportunity for mutual exploration, or, in a ‘rehearsal space’. It is a laboratory—an opportunity for learning in the presence of others as our abstract plans meet our complex reality.
